Brave. It is an exciting word. One that spells excitement and a yearning for adventure. It brings out an inner child that sees all the wonder and possibility that life has to offer. A word that makes anything attainable. All one has to do is take a step forward and be brave.
Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
However, being brave is easier said than done. It is easy to think about and want to do, but actually being brave is something else altogether. So what stops us? Time, circumstance and people can intimidate and scare us. Fear freezes us, stops us in our tracks.
Romans 8:15
The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.
Imagine all that is missed because of fear. What did not happen because a step was not taken? Fear stops us from starting, causes us to stop, to give up.
1 Samuel 16:18
One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the lyre. He is a brave man and a warrior.”
David was brave and probably lived one of the most exciting lives. David started as a shepherd, became a giant slayer, was a warrior and a king and was a man after God’s own heart. What would have been different if David did not have faith in God and was brave?
So as it says in Joshua “be strong and courageous.” And in Romans that we don’t need to live in fear because we have received the Spirit of God. So like our example David, be strong, be courageous, be bold, be fearless.
