It’s amazing how two little words can have such a profound effect on the way we live our lives. That can cause us to rethink and second guess every decision, every action. “What if?”

These are two powerful words that are fuel to so many questions. What if this happens? What if it doesn’t? What if they do this? What if they don’t? What if…? A couple of little words that feed today’s fear and anxieties. That causes worry about the unknown of things that may or may not happen.

Being afraid is a human condition. There are so many things to be afraid of. Anything from a fear of spiders to the unknown future. But Jesus says in Matthew that we do not have to worry.

Matthew 6:25-27
Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Matthew 6:34
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Although we may never be able to predict all that could happen or have all the answers to our “What ifs?” we can take comfort that God does not want us to be afraid.

2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

So no matter how many times I ask “what if?” or however many things may frighten me I can remember that I don’t need to be afraid. God is there for me through the ups and downs of life. He is there to be my courage and comfort.
