Unbiased Love

Perfect love is unbiased. Having no favorites it does not leave anyone out. It is encompassing, not exclusive. Not based on factors such as race, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, age, personality, material possession or social standing, an unflawed love is impartial and unprejudiced.

So what does love truly look like? 1 Corinthians gives a beautiful and complete description.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV)

When asked which commandment was the most important Jesus replied that the first was to, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.Mark 12:30-31 (NIV)

Whether it is in giving or receiving, love is essential and vital to life. It makes a profound impact on the way we live and how we treat others. Unfortunately, it is many times absent, interrupted by our own personal judgments or popular opinions that state who should or shouldn’t be loved.

Rather than just loving those who earn it or return the sentiment, we could bestow our love on those that are the Undeserving, the Unfortunate, the Ignored, the Contemptible, the Dishonorable, the Guilty, the Immoral. An uncomfortable and dangerous idea.

But it was one that Jesus lived and died for. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (NIV)
