Peace

Peaceful Lake

Peace can be such a hard thing to find sometimes when life comes around and knocks us down. Our own insecurities, fears, and doubts can mislead us into believing that peace is something that is beyond our reach. Despite what our world and circumstances may try to tell us, God can give us the unobtainable.

The first thing that we must realize is that there is a difference between the generic brand of peace that the world tries to pass off and the real deal that God offers. The world wants you to believe that peace means security in a new job, a drama-less day, and all your dreams coming true just the way you planned. Unfortunately, jobs aren’t always secure, unwanted drama often falls into our lap, and the plans we’ve held onto for so long can shatter in a second. This just goes to show that the world’s idea of peace is nothing other than fickle.

John 14:27 says, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” This verse states that there is a difference between God’s peace and the world’s peace. The world’s idea of peace is purely circumstantial. God’s peace endures through situations and stays with us despite our pain. It is having the knowledge and understanding that God is with you, and He will lead you through your struggles.

How do we obtain that peace? When life comes at us from all directions, it’s so hard to see beyond the chaos. Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep him in perfect peace because his mind is steadfast in You because he trusts in You.”

We have to keep our minds and hearts focused on God. People and situations in your life will try to put you down and overcome you. But God gives us a way out. He gives us not only a way to overcome but to also thrive in adversity. We have to put our trust in Him instead of allowing ourselves to drown in our circumstances. And when we look to Him, God will give us strength and peace to walk through the storm.
