Looking forward to Christmas I am excited about the presents. I love the feeling of anticipation, just waiting for Christmas morning so I can tear the wrapping paper and see what I received from friends and family.
Not only am I excited by what I get but also what I give. But with it being Christmas, and as a Christian celebrating Jesus’ birth how can I give Jesus a birthday present? I mean it’s Jesus’ birthday and we celebrate by giving presents to our closest friends and family. (Now I would like to note I am not bashing the giving of presents.) I think Jesus loves gifts whether we give them to him or others.
And I think in Matthew Jesus himself answers what we can give him for Christmas.
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25:35-40 NIV)
It’s the season for giving and I love it. So maybe this year we can give a little extra for that person in need. Jesus wanted us to give to others for him. So maybe there is a way to give Jesus a Christmas present. Happy Birthday Jesus!
